What exactly is Slime?


Lately Slime started popular walaopun actually this toy is not something new.

So, once you get a glimpse of Slime's history it's time we made a good Slime.
As you've read above, the 2 basic components of Slime produced by Mattel in the 1970s use Guar Gum (Polysacharide) and Borax (Sodium Tetraborate).
And usually Homemade Slime itself (DIY: Do it Yourself) made from Lem and Borax.
But it's good you need to be careful because borax (in high levels) can cause skin irritation and dangerous if not accidentally swallowed by the child.
Therefore through this article I try to provide another alternative way to make slime without using glue and borax which would be safer for your child.

How to make Slime without Lem and Borax: A Safer Alternative

Method # 1 - Using Sweetened Condensed Milk

How to make Slime with Sweetened Condensed Milk is 100% safe and can even be eaten by your child - the term is referred to as edible Slime.

The ingredients are as follows:

  • 14 ounce sweet white condensed milk
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (corn flour)
  • Food coloring
  • A few drops of vanilla or other common tasting foods you might use

How to make:

Combine sweetened condensed milk and cornstarch in panic and cook over low heat. While cooked, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.Remove after thickening. Mix with your food coloring and Vanilla or your favorite food flavors. Let it cool down.This Slime may be played / used for a day or two as long as after play is put in a sealed plastic bag and stored in the refrigerator.Oh yes .. do not forget!If you use a dye, be careful because the stain can contaminate your white clothing or carpet.

Method # 2 - Using Baby Powder

Slime is not edible but safe if it must be played all day. Maybe you feel a bit weird, really? baby powder period can be used as Slime?
Yup, at first I was a little hesitant but after I learned it is true that we can make slime with baby powder. How to make it too not too difficult, which you can complete check below.

Materials needed:

  • ½-1 bottleChicken baby
  • 4 tablespoonsBaby oil
  • 2 glasses Clean water
  • 2-3 teaspoons Food coloring

How to make:

Prepare a jar or other container that has a cover. Pour enough baby powder (1/2 to 1 bottle) depending on how much Slime you want. Then enter the water little by little into the dough while stirring constantly - note not to get too thin.After that add baby oil that has been prepared. Stir and mix all ingredients until evenly distributed.Then, pour clean water into the dough while stirring until blended. After the level of consistency is enough, put the food coloring into the dough while stirring until the color is evenly distributed.After you feel ready, close and store the dough for several hours (can also be stored in the refrigerator). And after that Slime is ready to be played.

Method # 3 - Using Soaps and Detergents

For this method How to Make Slime is to use soap. Surely you have soap and detergent supplies at home right?If interested, you can also make Slime using soap and detergent.

Necessary materials:

  • 1 cup of detergent powder
  • 3 tablespoons dishwashing liquid soap
  • 3 tablespoons liquid soap child
  • 1.25 glasses of clean water
  • Wheat flour sufficiently
  • 2 teaspoons of food coloring.

How to make:

Prepare the appropriate container. Add the flour and powdered detergent, then pour dishwashing liquid soap and child's liquid soap.Stir all the ingredients until they are evenly distributed, then add freshly prepared water into the dough while stirring slowly.After flattening, add food coloring. Check the viscosity, if necessary pour more water to taste until Slime batter is considered appropriate.Put the slime dough ready into the jar or container.Store in the refrigerator for a little over 15 minutes before being allowed to play by your child.

Method # 4 - Using Kanji Flour

How to make Slime by using starch kanji quite easy and cheap, besides of course flour made from cassava or cassava is also very safe for children.More details you can see below.

The material as follows:

  • 2 glasses of starch
  • 400 ml of clean water
  • 150 gr of cooking oil
  • 2 teaspoons food coloring (choose the color you like)

How to make:

Choose the appropriate container / basin to process the ingredients.Enter the prepared starch into the basin. Then pour clean water little by little, stirring until blended.Mix the cooking oil into the dough while stirring constantly.Note its viscosity. If still too dense can be added again cooking oil.Add the food coloring to the dough while stirring until evenly distributed.After all the ingredients are well mixed, insert Slime dough into plastic, then fasten tightly.Keep the dough in the Fridge for a few hours. And Slime is ready to play.
